April is Autism Awareness Month and April 2, 2008 is World Autism Awareness Day. This day encourages all states to take measures to raise awareness about autism throughout society and to encourage early diagnosis and early intervention. Autism Speaks, the world's largest autism advocacy organization, hopes this will enlighten society of this growing global health crisis. National Caregivers Conference, October 29th at the Sheraton at Woodbridge Place, Iselin NJ. This years keynote speark will be Lee Woodruff, wife of ABC New Anchor Bob Woodruff who was critically wounded in Iraq from a roadside bomb. The Mercer County Institute for the Arts offers after school workshops in the visual and performing arts for students ages 8 to 21 with disabilities throghout the school year.
Act for Kids, a division of the SAFeT Response Center, is a nonprofit organization committed to the prevention and healing of sexual abuse and family trauma through education and treatment. After School Programs 
Kids Korner at Berkeley is an after school program for children 5 to 13 with autism and multiple disabilities, located at the Berkeley Township Community Recreation Center on Rt. 9. Anyone wishing more info, please call your DDD case manager to apply, or call 732-863-4500.
Kids Korner at Toms River is another after school program for children ages 6 to 12 at the Cedar Grove Elementary School in Toms River. The program provides children with autism and other developmental disabilities with recreation and socialization opportunities. Applicants who have established eligibility should contact their DDD case manager for a referral. New applicants should contact the
Intake Screener at DDD at 732-863-4500. Kids Korner at Newark is an after school program from 3p.m. to 6p.m. for kids living in the SLT #4 area or 07104 zip code area. The program is for children ages 7 to 12 afflicted with autism or PDD. For info about eligibility and registration, please call Robyn Simms at 973-244-0850.
Saturday Recreation Program, held at the Lakeview School in Edison meets 2 Saturdays a month from 10am to 2pm. This program gives recreational opportunities to children and adults with disabilities. For an application and more info, please call The Epilepsy Foundation at 732-262-8020.
Saturday Recreation Program, held at St. Francis Community Center, 4700 Long Beach Blvd, Brant, NJ, meets 2 Saturdays a month from 10am to 2pm. This program gives children with developmental disabilities ages 6 to 16 recreational opportunities. Applicants must be eligible through DDD. For more info, please call 732-262-8020.
Saturday Recreation Program, held at Children's Specialized Hospital in Mountainside for Somerset-Union Counties commencing around April 1st.
Family Co-Options Sunday Afternoon Swims
All swim events are from 4:00pm to 5:30pm at the Boys and Girls Clubs of Paterson and Garfield. You must register for every date you want to attend and you must call 973-244-0850 by 12 noon if you will not attend on that date. Failure to do so will put you at the bottom of the waiting list. Dates differ at each location, so please call Jordan at 973-244-0850 xtn 302 for dates and sign up info.
Lifespire New Jersey, Inc. is offering Saturday Respite Programs for children ages 10 and older and adults with Autism. Program hours are 10am to 4pm with limited vacancies. Pleae contact Kamelia Kameli at 732-794-4777 for more information.
